Accions Àcrates

Year: 2018

Publication

Accions ácrates is a project of photography and interventions in public space that took place between 2016 and 2017.
The project could be seen in the last edition of the Festival Forma Balaguer, Lleida in 2024.

The images document a few actions performed on the facades of several buildings inthe area of Lleida previously used by the military or the police. The same banner with the Spanish word “autoridad” [autority] is hung inverted on the door of each building. To read the word, the viewer is forced to turn around the picture, executing an iconoclastic action of presenting the building’s image reversed. In a position of denial or punishment.

In 2017, a publication was made containing eight posters with the images of the eight interventions carried out. For this publication, the project was expanded with a small visual and contextual research of the history of each building and how these buildings have been absorbed by other uses, sometimes with a clear relationship with culture.

Title: Àguila tapada, Capitania d’Infanteria General Sanjurjo, Lleida 2017
Technique: Giclee printing.

The photograph shows the large fascist symbol of the eagle used during Franco’s dictatorship on the facade of the Gardeny barracks in the city of Lleida in 2017, when the city council authorities decided to cover it with a tarp some years before withdrawing it for good.

It has been published by Roca Umbert fàbrica de les arts.
